Gulf Trip - Day Three - January 4, 2022

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

We traveled from Battery Hill to Ingalls Harbor Dock in Decatur, AL today. We went 96 nautical miles, approximately 11.5 hours with 9.5 hours being underway. We woke up to ice on our decks and our ropes were all frozen. We left around 6:45 am. Our original plan was to keep it a short day and stay at an anchorage; however, we decided to go ahead and make the run to Decatur so we would be able to tie up to the docks. We saw our first bald eagle sitting in a tree today! We went through Guntersville Lock today. Just before the Locks, Tracy’s starboard engine started smoking so he went ahead and tied up to us and James drove us both into the Locks. We also had a railroad bridge that had to be raised for us to go under. I will try to upload the video, but you can also see it on my Facebook Timeline. We arrived at Ingalls Harbor around 6:00 pm. We were able to take some trash off and get a couple bags of ice. I left my ice maker on the cockpit last night and didn’t think about it being so cold that it would do any damage, but it stopped working. James grilled burgers for us tonight and they were delicious as always!
