Gulf Trip - Day Seven - January 8, 2022

beckygarrison66

We left our anchorage this morning at 6:50 a.m. It was a narrow cove, so we actually had to back out. We passed 2 barges as soon as we got on the main channel. The sun came out and we had a beautiful day of sunshine. We were even able to drive from the bridge a lot this afternoon. We got to our first lock, John Stennis, around 8:00 a.m. We were able to do a live Facebook video while locking through. It was about 3 hours ride to the next lock, Tom Bevill. We got there at 11:15 a.m. but had to wait over an hour to lock through because there was a tow-barge inside the lock and another one waiting to come up. Shelia and I had planned to do a live video, but our cell signal was so low that it kept cutting out on us. Tracy was able to catch up with us and go through the locks with us, so that worked out well. Tracy is still having engine problems and is running on one engine until he gets to the locks. We passed quite a few barges today. There was a bald eagle perched on a log at the entrance to the Bevill Lock.

We had another 3 hour ride to get to our anchorage for the night. We stayed at Lower Cook Bend anchorage. We stayed here with David & Kathy Dial last year when we were bringing our boat up and they were headed south in their boat. We had taco salad for dinner tonight. James and I got in the hot tub tonight. This is the first night that hasn't been freezing! It's 55 degrees here. We are between Columbus MS and Demopolis AL. Tomorrow we have one lock and should make it to Kingfisher Marina in Demopolis in about 7 hours.
